A summer special from Midnight Shift sees 3 tracks as giveaway ‘Enkel Strukur EP’ from label artist Julien H Mulder. Meaning ‘Simple Structure’ in Swedish, the EP displays just that reined in form with an industrial bite. Created wholly with analogue gear, the EP shows our artist stretching his legs further even as we get to know more about this enigmatic character.
‘Dold Maskin’ jumps straight into business with a slowly unfolding bassline soon becoming tightly woven in the mix. The machines are left to dance to their own secret, hidden rhythm while a master puppeteer manipulates the strings from behind.
This sandwich EP’s main filling, ‘Utnyttjad Kontakt’, uses a relentless pulsing signal as the main hook while chanting and mechanical elements stomp and clatter around, creating a tribal siren call for today’s industrialist.
‘Mekaniskt Brus’ is a cranky number coaxed alive from slumber. Now awake, he reluctantly gears into action, each noise he makes a reaction, sometimes a protest, all now sneakily captured down on tape.
