What’s the buzz: French retro-electronica duo Air is back with an album based on a 1902 silent film classic. And the big news is that it’ll feature the vocal chops of Au Revoir Simone and Beach House’s Victoria Legrand!

Sounds like: Their lead single Seven Stars immediately unveils Legrand’s lovely pipes, along with a more immediate and immense sound coiled around pacey drums and evocative piano instrumentation.

Prediction: After the slightly disappointing Love 2, this conceptual approach and subtle revamp of their sound may just be what the doctor ordered. This is Air’s second wind.

Rrose – Waterfall

What’s the buzz: Sandwell District never disappoints and enigmatic techno label’s latest secret weapon is an anonymous producer called Rrose.

Sounds like: As heavy, pounding and intense as can be. A concussive cut that’ll leave you begging for more.

Prediction: Little is known about Rrose but with talent this thorny, you can bet his profile is about to bloom.

FaltyDL – Can't Stop the Prophet

What’s the buzz: NYC’s FaltyDL has had an insanely productive year and his latest EP offering, Atlantis, is once again flawless top to bottom.

Sounds like: Can’t Stop The Prophet begins as an instrumental hip hop tune, akin to LA’s low end beats, before detouring into an epic, climatic jungle breakdown.

Prediction: Drew Lustman’s known for his two-step and UK Garage adventures but this track bodes well for more versatile projects in the future.

Major Lazer – Original Don

What’s the buzz: A new Major Lazer single is always gonna get hype. But when it comes paired with a bizarre viral video of blade-wielding dancers, a sharply-dressed octogenarian and Diplo, um, reading, that’s just a wacky bonus.

Sounds like: Diplo and Switch never hold back, but we think they have outdone themselves here with this electro-house banger. Also who cares how it sounds like, have you seen that video!?

Prediction: Another massive four-to-the-floor scorcher heralds another big year for the dancehall duo in 2012.

Eats Everything – The Size

What’s the buzz: Exactly a year ago, Eats Everything came out of nowhere with his boisterous Entrance Song. True to its name, the track did exactly that and introduced the bass-house newbie in spectacular fashion.

Sounds like: The new track off his eponymous EP (via Dirtybird) overflows with swooping claps, jaunty vocals, lovely strings, bouncy bass and even a fabulous sample of Moby’s Porcelain. Wowza.

Prediction: With an instant classic like this, Eats Everything will be the poster boy for Bristol's bass/house scene for the foreseeable future.
